SPRING CITY, TN – Addison Cardwell of Knoxville, TN drove the Brucebilt Performance Rocket to his third straight Sportsman Division win on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway. Cardwell took the lead from Sylvan Schuette of Blairsville, GA on lap six of the 20-lap Feature Race and drove on to the checkered flag with a 1.961 second margin of victory,
Schuette finished second in the Fast Fab Set Up & Design Longhorn and Brandon Stanfield of Soddy Daisy, TN was third driving the Backyard Racing Engines Mastersbilt. John Smith of Soddy Daisy, TN took the fourth spot in the Chat-Town Radiator GRT, and Jeremy Hicks of Cleveland, TN rounded out the top five aboard the Hicks Racing Special.
Cardwell was the Fast Qualifier among the 18 entrants with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 11.903 seconds. Since Cardwell had won two straight races, he had to start third for the feature event.
Schuette moved over to the pole position to start the race and took the lead in turn one. Cardwell followed Schuette to move up to second followed by Joey Bishop of Spring City, TN, Tyler Dennis of Dayton, TN in the First Farmers Bank Rocket, and Bradley Goodman of Spring City in the Goody’s Power Sweeping Rocket in the top five.
Bishop spun the Bishop Racing Special out of the third spot on lap four to bring out the caution flag. A pair of other caution flags brought about a lap six restart. Cardwell was able to get inside Schuette coming off the second turn, and the pair raced side-by-side for the lead down the backstretch and through the third turn.
Schuette got loose on the high side of the fourth turn, and Cardwell drove underneath coming off the fourth turn to take the lead. Cardwell was able to keep Schuette behind him for three more restarts after caution flags on laps seven, eight and nine. Cardwell worked lapped traffic for most of the second half of the race on his way to the win.
Cardwell wasn’t done racing after his Sportsman win, as he jumped in his Late Model Division ride for that 25-lap Main Event. Cardwell was also the Fast Qualifier in that Division with a 12.146 second lap. Cardwell led three-time and defending Champion Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN and Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN for the first 18 laps of the race.
On a lap 19 restart, Cardwell’s car fell off the pace and he dropped out of the race. Goodman went on to take his second-straight win in the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts CVR and Collins finished second in the Knoxville Diesel Rocket. Michael Smith of Crossville, TN took the third spot in the Smurtee Longhorn and Kelby Norwood of Etowah, TN was fourth in the Exit Milestone Realty Rocket. Jeff Jackson of Ooltewah, TN rounded out the to five driving the Jackson Racing Special.
With 120 race cars in the Pit Area on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway, there was plenty of action for the price of admission. The 15-lap Front-Wheel-Drive A Feature Race was won by Nathan Adams of Crossville, TN in the Adams Racing Special.

The safety features that must be built into the Front-Wheel-Drive race cars at Mountain View Raceway did their job, and Gresham walked away uninjured.
