DRIVERS MAKE FINAL TUNE-UP BEFORE MOUNTAIN VIEW RACEWAY 2022 OPENER

SPRING CITY, TN – Right around 75 drivers made their final tune-ups on Saturday afternoon before the 2022 Season Opener at Mountain View Raceway this coming Saturday night. The ¼-mile high-banked clay oval has undergone a reconfiguration from last season with new clay and progressive banking from the inside curb to the outside wall.

The defending and three-time Mountain View Raceway Late Model Champion Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN had the fastest time of the day with a lap in 11.938 seconds driving the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts CVR powered by an economical all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT525 Circle Track Engine.

“We were pretty happy with everything on the first time out with the new engine, but we still have some things to learn with what gearing the engine likes at Mountain View Raceway,” Goodman said. “The track feels a lot better with the new banking in turns three and four, but it seems about the same in turns one and two. I think the new banking is really going to open up some new racing grooves for this season.”

Goodman and several other drivers in several other Divisions ran multiple grooves during the Saturday afternoon Open Practice session, moving around on the racing surface. The track held good moisture on a cool cloudy day. Goodman is looking forward to getting out on the track this coming Saturday night under the lights.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there this Saturday night under the lights and see what the track does when the sun goes down,” Goodman said. “It seems to be in good shape as the new dirt has had a couple of daytime practice sessions on it to work it in. From what I saw yesterday, I think it’s going to be really racy.”

All of the Mountain View Raceway Weekly Divisions and then some were represented in the Saturday afternoon Open Practice. There were Late Models, Sportsmen, Open-Wheel Modifieds, B-Hobbies, 4-Cylinders, Thunders, Front-Wheel-Drives, and Junior Front-Wheel-Drives on the track representing the Weekly Divisions,

The Open Practice also saw a Sharps Mini Late Model, a Division that will run at the track bi-monthly. Also making an appearance was a 600cc Mini Sprint, an open-wheel open-cockpit single seat race car that will be in action at Mountain View Raceway along with the Southern Outlaw Midget Series on April 30. A Dwarf Car and a Late Model bodied Go-Kart also took to the track.

For this Saturday night’s Season Opener at Mountain View Raceway, the Late Model, Sportsman, Open-Wheel Modified, 4-Cylinder, Thunder, Front-Wheel-Drive, Junior Front-Wheel-Drive, and Sharps Mini Late Model Divisions will be in action. The 4-Cylinder and B-Hobby Divisions will alternate weeks in the track line-up.
