SPRING CITY, TN – The defending and three-time Mountain View Raceway Late Model Champion Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN held off Addison Cardwell of Knoxville, TN in the 25-lap Late Model Feature Race on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway. It was Goodman’s third win of the season driving the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts CVR.
Five caution flags kept the field close together, and Cardwell challenged for the lead late in the race, but had to settle for second in the Cardwell Racing Rocket. Kyle Courtney of Knoxville, TN rallied from the back of the pack after being ticketed with a lap five caution flag to finish third in the Orr Brothers Construction Kryptonite.
Jeff Jackson of Ooltewah, TN drove the Jackson Racing Longhorn to a fourth-place finish and Josh Walker of Ringgold, GA rounded out the top five in the Nichols Fiberglass Mastersbilt. Courtney was the Fast Qualifier with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 11.700 seconds.
A total of 122 race cars in eight Divisions with drivers representing four different states rolled into the pit area of Mountain View Raceway on Saturday night for a Regular Weekly Points Race.
Cardwell did visit Victory Lane after he picked up his fourth Sportsman victory of the season in the 20-lap Main event. Sylvan Schuette of Blairsville, GA was second driving the Fast Fab Set-Up and Design Train and the defending Mountain View Raceway Sportsman Champion Joe Bray of New Tazewell, TN took the third spot in the Bray Roofing Rocket.
Robby Reagan of Crossville, TN was the winner of the 20-lap Open-Wheel Modified Feature Race driving the Jason Lewis Dayton Super Center Lightning. The defending Mountain View Raceway Open-Wheel Modified Champion Billy Palmer of Knoxville, TN finished second in the Mighty Muffler and Brakes Tinch and Dale Nance of Wartburg, TN was third in the Nance Racing Special.
Dylan Johnson of Dunlap, TN drove the Johnson Racing Camaro to victory in the 15-lap B- Hobby Main Event followed by Brady Lee of Knoxville, TN in the Lee’s Mountain Retreat Camaro in second, and Jim Gilbert of Rossville, GA in third driving the Rat Rod Chevelle.
Soddy Daisy, TN drivers and teammates Chris Williams and Scott Smith finished one-two respectively in the 15-lap Thunder Feature Race. Williams drove the Anneke Wilkey Monte Carlo, and Smith was in the Crouse Automotive Monte Carlo. Zaniel Rogge of Spring City, TN was third in the Rogge Racing Camaro.
The Front-Wheel-Drive field swelled to 42 cars on Saturday night. Nathan Adams of Crossville, TN was the winner of the 15-lap A Feature Race in the Adams Racing Special followed by Josh Scealf of Decatur, TN in the J&S Towing Honda and Jacob Sharp of Crossville, TN started 21st and finished third in the Sharp Race Cars Chevrolet.
Henry Cligan of Dayton, TN won 12-lap Front-Wheel-Drive B Feature Race in the Cligan Racing Special. Dylan Crumbley of Dayton, TN drove the Crumbley Racing Chevrolet to a second-place finish and Jon Pilkey of Ten Mile, TN was third in the Pilkey Racing Saturn.
Brad Cross of Cleveland, TN won the 15-lap Developmental Sportsman Main Event in the Cross Racing Special. Jason Jackson of Cleveland, TN took the second spot in the Jackson Racing Special and Charlie Fisher of Spring City, TN finished third driving the Charlie’s Used Auto Parts GRT.
Steven Clowers of Englewood, TN won the 10-lap Junior Front-Wheel-Drive Feature Race for kids 15 years of age and younger. The 14-year-old driver in the Clowers Racing Special topped 11-year-old Rebeacca Gresham of Decatur, TN driving the Gresham Racing Chevrolet and nine-year-old Frankie Sharp of Crossville, TN in the Sharp Race Cars Chevrolet.
The next event at Mountain View Raceway will be Saturday night, May 14 with a Regular Weekly Points Race for the Late Model, Sportsman, Open-Wheel Modified, 4-Cylinder, Thunder, Front-Wheel-Drive, Junior Front-Wheel-Drive, and Developmental Sportsman Divisions in action on the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval.
The Pit Gate opens at 3 p.m. and the Grandstand and Tier Parking Gates open at 4 p.m. Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:15 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
Pit Passes are $25 for Adults, $15 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. The General Admission and Tier Parking ticket prices are $10 for race fans 12 and older, Children 6-11 are $5. and Children 5 and under are admitted Free. All Children must be accompanied by an Adult.
