Spring City, TN (6/27/20) – The new Mountain View Raceway held it’s first series race on Saturday night, as the Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series was in town for a $3,000 to win show. There was a really great crowd on hand and the racing was the best of the year at the track.
The Crate Racin’ USA Series was in town for the Spring City 50. The 50 lap feature payed $3,000 to win. 21 Dirt Late Models signed in for the night. In qualifying it was Wil Herrington, who not only set fast time on the night, but he broke the track record for a 604 Crate Late Model, with a lap of 11.011. The old track record was 11.195 By Randy Weaver set earlier in the year. In all, the top 5 cars broke the old track record.
In the feature, Herrington powered into the lead, and wasn’t to be denied as he led the full 50 laps for the win. Ahnna Parkhurst finished in second, Cruz Skinner was third, Bryson Mitchell fourth, and Jimmy Elliott rounded out the top five. There was 18 Sportsman cars that signed in to race. In qualifying it was #15H Scottie Hogan setting fast time with a lap 11.329. Last weeks fast qualifying #2 Josh Walker set 2nd fast time, and #17J Justin Cameron, who had won the previous two races was third quick in qualifying. In the 20-lap feature, Hogan jumped into the lead and held off a determined Walker for the win. #28 Brandon Stanfield was third, #22 Cody Courtney fourth, and #4 Nick Bowling rounded out the top five.
The B-Sportsman saw a new face in victory lane, as #5 Tyler Dixon took home his first feature win of the year at the track. Dixon had finished second in the two previous races, but he came through for the win on this night. #3 Tim Morgan finished in second, #J28 Christian James was third, #D4 Zack Crager fourth, and #76 David Peak rounded out the top five in the 11 car field.
In the B-Hobby class, it was #13 DJ McMahan winning his first feature of the year at the track. #B12 Buck Hoffman finished second, and #1 Nate Hicks was third.
Once again #30 Jonathan Sims took the Thunder feature. It was his 5th straight feature win of the year at the track. A bounty had been placed on Sims two weeks ago, and nobody has collected it yet. #52 Clayton Forsyth finished in second, #1 Cody Satterfield was third, #73 Eric Honeycutt fourth, and #17 Spencer Walton III round out the top five.
#46 Ricky Harmon won for the second week in a row in the 4-Cylinder Class. #2 Michael Fitzgerald was second, #328 Joseph Harmon was third, #18 Chris Hunt fourth, and #30 Larry Housley rounded out the top five.
In the Front Wheel Drive Class, it was #47 Dustin Duncan picking up the win, as he led flag to flag. #1 Jacob Sharp finished in second, #526 Josh Davis was third, #H95 Hunter Withers fourth, and #33H Aaron Herbert rounded out the top five in the 14 car field.
Next week (July 4), Mountain View Raceway will not be racing. We will return to action on Saturday, June 11th, with a weekly racing program.
