KINZER CAPTURES $1,200 WITH MOUNTAIN VIEW CUMBERLAND PLATEAU MOD WIN

SPRING CITY, TN – Brandon Kinzer of Allen, KY won the 25-lap Cumberland Plateau Open-Wheel Modified Series race on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway driving the Kinzer Drilling Company Special. Kinzer held off the determined charge of Skylar Douglas of Clinton, TN is the closing laps of the race to take the $1,200 top prize.

Douglas had to settle for second in the Lisa’s Boutique Bandit and Amos Bunch of Wartburg, TN finished third driving the Heidel Farms and Excavating Bandit. Robby Reagan of Crossville, TN took the fourth spot in the Jason Lewis Dayton Super Center Lightning, and Adam Ogle of Cosby, TN was fifth driving the Ogle’s Neighborhood Service and Towing Brucebilt.

Kinzer swept the racing program by taking Fast Time honors with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.066 seconds to earn the pole position for the Feature Race, and then led all 25 laps for the victory, While Kinzer had control at the front of the field, there was plenty of action behind the veteran driver.

Just after the green flag dropped to start the race, the caution bulb had to be fired up on the first lap when Joe Freels of Coalfield, TN smacked the backstretch wall and spun the Coalhill Fabrication Mullynski in turn three. That necessitated a complete restart with Kinzer taking the lead followed by Reagan, Douglas, Bunch and Reece Ogle of Sevierville, TN.

A debris caution on lap four bunched up the field and a battle for the second spot ensued on the restart, as Douglas dusted off the top shelf on the high side of the banking and put the heat on Reagan. Douglas sailed around Reagan on lap seven coming off the fourth turn to take over the second spot. Tony Garber of Shelbyville, TN moved into the top five on lap nine getting around Ogle.

Kinzer had a half straightaway lead over the high riding Douglas when he caught the drivers on tail end of the lead lap on the 11th circuit. The third caution flag of the race was waved on lap 13 when Matthew Hopper of Lancing, TN stalled the Charlie Hopper Enterprises Trick Race Car in turn four. Kinzer led Douglas, Reagan, Bunch, and Garber down for the restart.

The field stayed green for two laps before Walter Walsh of Claxton, TN spun the Walsh Racing Special in turn four on lap 15. Kinzer pulled away on the restart and, as he had done for the first half of the race, was able to pull away from Douglas one to two tenths of the second each lap.

The final caution flag of the race came out on lap 22 when Reece Ogle spun the Chad Ogle Construction Special in turn three. Kinzer, Douglas, Reagan, Bunch and Adam Ogle, who charged into the top five from the 12th starting spot, lined up for the four-lap dash to the finish,

Kinzer was able to pull away, as Reagan dove underneath the rim riding Douglas to battle for the second position. Reagan took the spot on lap 22, but once Douglas got wound up on the high side, he regained second spot and tried to close in on Kinzer in the closing laps. Douglas was able to close to within a couple of car-lengths, but Kinzer took a .826 second margin of victory under the checkered flag.

A total of 134 drivers from five different states in eight different Divisions rolled into the pit area on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway.
