SPRING CITY, TN – Matt Shannon of Delano, TN won the 4th Annual Brian Hooks Memorial Race for the Sportsman Division Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway. Shannon drew the pole position and led all 20 laps to pocket the $1,357 top prize driving the MSR Capital Race Car.

The Shannon Brothers of Wartburg, TN, no relation to the winner, took the second and third spots. Zach Shannon finished second in the Shannon & Sons Trucking Longhorn and Jeremy Shannon was third driving the Shannon Racing Special.

Hayden Ownbey of Cleveland, TN started 11th and finished fourth in the Ownbey Racing Special to earn the $357 Hard Charger of the Race Award. Addison Cardwell of Knoxville, TN rounded out the top five in the Cardwell Racing Special. Cardwell pocketed an additional $357 for out-qualifying the 22-car field with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 10.982 seconds.

Joe Bray of New Tazewell, TN drove the Bray Roofing Rocket to a sixth-place finish and Brandon Stanfield of Soddy Daisy, TN took the seventh spot in the Backyard Race Engines Mastersbilt. The eighth spot went to Bradley Goodman of Spring City, TN in the Goody’s Power Sweeping Rocket.

Corey Lawless of Dalton, GA was ninth driving the Lawless Racing Special, and Alden Morgan of Cedartown, GA rounded out the top ten in the Redline Oil GRT. In preliminary action, the two eight-lap B-Main Races were won by Stanfield and Bray.

Matt Shannon took the lead at the drop of the green flag to start the race followed by Jeremy Shannon, Zach Shannon, Seth Jolley of Spring City, TN in the Jolley Racing Special and Cardwell. The first of six caution flags came out on lap two when Hayden Cardwell of Knoxville, TN spun the Shorty’s Motorsports PPM in turn two.

The field raced single file in the top five until lap eight when Joseph Bishop of Spring City, TN stalled the Tank’s Tackle Mastersbilt in turn two. The yellow caution bulb was lit up on lap nine when Skylar Delaney of Sparta, TN spun the Delaney Racing Special in turn four. A multi-car tangle in turn three on the restart brought out the fourth yellow flag of the race.

The top ten at the halfway point of the race saw Matt Shannon leading Jeremy Shannon, Zach Shannon, Jolley, Addison Cardwell, Bray, Ownbey, Stanfield, Goodman, and Morgan. Ownbey had dusted off the top shelf of the track on the restart and battled side-by-side with Bray for the sixth spot. Ownbey cleared Bray for the sixth spot on lap 12.

The fifth caution flag came out on lap 13 when Ted Lowe of Oliver Springs, TN spun the Lowe Racing Special in turn four. When the field returned to green flag racing, Ownbey returned to the outside groove as a three car battle for fourth was being waged among Jolley, Addison Cardwell and Ownbey. With five laps to go, Zach Shannon got by Jeremy Shannon for the second spot.

The battle for fourth took its toll on Jolley, who stalled out of the fourth spot on lap 19 in turn four. The one lap dash to the finish was led by Matt Shannon, followed by Zach Shannon, Jeremy Shannon, Ownbey, and Addison Cardwell.
