SPRING CITY, TN – Zach Shannon of Wartburg, TN won the 25-lap Late Model “Pretty In Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Feature Race on Saturday at Mountain View Raceway driving the Shannon & Sons Trucking Rocket. Shannon swept the program by setting Fast Time and leading all 25 laps of the Main Event.
Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN finished second in the Knoxville Diesel Rocket and Kyle Courtney of Knoxville, TN took the second spot in the Orr Brothers Construction Kryptonite. Jeff Jackson of Ooltewah, TN drove the Jackson Racing Longhorn to a fourth-place finish and Colton Profitt of Crossville, TN rounded out the top five in the Wyatt Builders Capital Race Car.
Shannon earned the Pole Position for the Feature Race by setting Fast Time with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.255 seconds. Shannon took the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by Jackson, Collins, Profitt and Casey Turman of Lafayette, GA in the Turman Builders Supply CVR.
Courtney was the man on the move early in the race, as he passed Turman for fifth on lap five, and then took the fourth spot from Profitt on lap eight. The leaders reached the cars on tail end of the lead lap by the tenth lap, and Profitt reclaimed the fourth spot from Courtney on lap 11.
The field was bunched up when the only caution flag came out on lap 17 when Mike Levi of Cleveland, TN spun the Levi Racing Rocket in turn four. Mountain View Raceway then used the Dixie-Style Double-File Restart for the first time this season. Shannon was in a row up front by himself with the field doubled up behind him.
Jackson in the second spot chose the inside and the third-place car of Collins restarted to his right on the outside. Collins sailed around the outside of Jackson on the restart to take second, and one lap later, it was Courtney using the outside groove to pass Jackson for the third spot. Shannon had clear sailing in front of him for the final nine tours to take a 1.242 second margin of victory.
