Mountain View Raceway roared back to life on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, as a packed house of fans were anticipating the racing action. In 604 Late Models, it was Crossville’s #116 Randy Weaver setting fast time to put himself on the pole for the feature. In the 25-lap feature, Weaver jumped out to a big lead with a pack of cars battling it out behind him. Weaver was dominate in his return to the track where he started his racing career, as he went wire to wire for his very popular win. #15 Ethan Hunter, from Harrison, would finish in second, Knoxville’s #144 Josh Collins was third, Spring City driver #24 Barry Goodman finished fourth, and Murphy, NC driver #38 Jaime Oliver rounded out the top five.
The Open Wheel Modifieds raced on this night, and it was Elkton, KY driver #98 Zach Harris setting fast time. In the 15-lap feature Harris jumped into the lead, with fellow Elkton, KY driver #15 Clayton Miller in his rear-view mirror. With some really fast cars battling behind the duo, Miller got by Harris early in the race for the lead. Several fast cars were racing their hearts out behind the leader. Miller went on to take the win, with Knoxville’s #36 Billy Palmer racing hard for a well-earned second, Harris was third, the #49C of Crossville’s Clayton Turner finished fourth, and #14 Travis Sietsema rounding out the top five after a mid-race spin.
Wartburg, TN driver #06 Wesley Lester, led all fifteen laps to pick up the win in the B-Hobby class. Crossville’s #55 Duke Lowe, who was the fast qualifier, battled it out with Lester but just couldn’t make the pass for the lead and finished in second, last weeks feature winner, Dunlap’s #20 Jonathan Hughes was third, #BR549 Cody Moffitt, from Sweetwater, was fourth, and Dunlap’s #15 Lamar Hughes rounded out the top five.
The Modlites and Dwarf cars were combined do to low car count in each class. #81, Lenoir City, TN driver Larry Housley set fast time and led all fifteen laps to take home the win. Rock Island, TN driver #64 Micah Collins, who started in 9th, battled his way to a second-place finish, Cookeville’s #3K Michael Kelly was third, #512 Chris Payne fourth, and #64 Bo Willis rounded out the top five.
The Mountain View Raceway owners felt that the fans in attendance didn’t get their money’s worth on Saturday night, as we did not run heat races. So next week, June 6th, anyone in attendance at the May 30th race in the grandstands and tier parking, can bring their ticket back to the race, on June 6th, to get in for half price which is $5. If you weren’t in attendance on May 30th the price will be only $10 in the grandstands and tier parking on June 6th. Instead of racing in alternating groups next week, the owners are going to try to race as many of the classes of cars possible for the fans next Saturday night. The decision on the classes racing will be announced within the next couple of days. Possibly all, or almost all of the classes will be in action. Check out our website at www.mountainviewraceway.com for more information. You can also get on Facebook and look up Mountain View Raceway for the information. See you next week at the new Mountain View Raceway for more “thunder on the high banks”.
