Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, TN, held it's last practice of the season on Saturday. There were 70 race teams that entered the gates for the final chance to get their cars ready for the first race of the season next weekend. The track held a special promotion for the drivers that turned laps on the ¼ mile high banked bullring.
On this night, the drivers that turned the fastest lap during the practice in their classes would receive a $100 bonus. A total of 9 classes participated, with drivers attempting to be the fastest in their group. The fastest lap of the day was turned in by Sportsman driver #11 Don Van Winkle, as he blistered the track at 10.238. In the Late Model class it was #5 Mark Todd turning the fastest lap at 12.298 to take the bonus. In Open Wheel Modifieds, it was long time East Tennessee driver #36 Billy Palmer turning in the fast lap at 12.591. The fastest lap in the Modified Street class was turned in by #55 Duke Lowe with a time of 12.442. The Sharps Mini Late Models made an appearance at the track, and the fast lap was turned in by #113 Jack Orr, with a lap of 13.119. A 10-lap dash for cash in the class was also won by Orr, with #32 Greg Fields finishing second, and #99 Bill Goss rounded out the top three. The Dwarf class saw #64 Bo Willis set fast time for that class at 13.207. #48 Dustin Pueirtt was quickest in the 4 cyl class, with a lap of 13.352. In the Front Wheel Drive class, it was #90 Nick Adams with the fast time of 13.901. #30 Jonathan Sims was the fastest driver in the Thunder class, as he tripped the timer with a lap of 13.849.
Next weekend, the inaugural season at the new Mountain View Raceway will open for the first races of the season. A decision will be made within the next day or two, to figure out which classes will be in action. So keep an eye out for the announcement of the schedule for next weekend's opening night.
