WILSON WINS CUMBERLAND PLATEAU OWM MOUNTAIN VIEW RACE

SPRING CITY, TN – Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN drove the Roland Digital Media Special to a $1,500 victory on Saturday night in the 30-lap Cumberland Plateau Open-Wheel Modified Series Feature Race at Mountain View Raceway. Wilson took the point from early race leader Brandon Kinzer of Allen, KY on lap 25, and then held on after a late-race restart for the win.

Kinzer finished second in the Kinzer Drilling Company Special and third went to Amos Bunch of Wartburg, TN driving the Heidel Farms and Excavating Bandit. Joey Cotterman took the fourth spot in the Cotterman Racing Special and Skylar Douglas of Clinton, TN rounded out the top five in the Lisa’s Boutique Bandit.

In preliminary action, Kinzer out-timed the 28-car field in Qualifications with a lap around the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval in 12.441 seconds to earn the Pole Position for the Big Show. The two six-lap Qualifying Heat Races were won by Tony Garber of Shelbyville, TN in the Garber Racing Special and defending Mountain View Raceway Open-Wheel Modified Champion Billy Palmer of Knoxville, TN in the Mighty Muffler and Brakes Tinch.

The Feature Race was a stubborn one to get started as spins and crashes took five tries to get one lap complete. Kinzer led the first lap after a single-file complete restart followed by Jimmy Dalton of Powell, TN in the Willett Powder Coating Elite, Bunch, Wilson and Cotterman. Kinzer set a fast pace and caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap by the fifth circuit.

Dalton brought out the first of two caution flags on lap 11 when he spun out of the second spot coming off the fourth turn and into the infield. Wilson had moved up to the second spot for the restart followed by Bunch, Cotterman and Douglas. By lap 15, Kinzer had pulled out to a 1.5 second lead over Wilson,

Kinzer caught some heavy lapped traffic on lap 20, and Wilson closed in to challenge for the lead. Once the lead duo cleared the lapped traffic on lap 22, Wilson began looking for racing room. The leaders caught another cluster of lapped cars on lap 25, and Wilson made his move to grab the lead.

With victory in sight on lap 29, it was the yellow flag that waved instead of the white flag when Reece Ogle of Sevierville, TN spun his Chad Ogle Construction Special coming off turn two. The race would come down to a green, white, checker finish. Wilson held the lead for the two-lap dash to the finish and drove under the checkered flag with a .647 second margin of victory over Kinzer.

There were 116 total race cars in seven different Divisions in the pit area on Saturday night at Mountain View Raceway that has just been voted by the race fans on the Tennessee Racing Facebook page as the Best Race Track in Tennessee for the second straight year with 40 percent of the vote.
